Why Live in Kanata?

Kanata is a big part of Ottawa, but it really isn’t one single neighbourhood. Where you choose within Kanata can make a big difference to your day-to-day life.

Kanata North is probably best known for the technology sector and the employment around the Kanata North Business Park. Neighbourhoods like Morgan’s Grant and the surrounding newer communities are popular with people who want to be close to that part of the city while still having parks, trails and suburban space around them.

Bridlewood has a different feel. It’s a large, established family-oriented area with a mix of housing, schools, parks and plenty of everyday amenities nearby.

Then you have the older, more mature parts of Kanata around areas such as Beaverbrook, Katimavik and the Eagleson corridor. These neighbourhoods tend to have mature trees, established streets and a different character from some of the newer developments.

Location within Kanata matters for commuting too. Being closer to Eagleson Road gives you convenient access to transit, including the Eagleson Park & Ride, while also putting you close to Highway 417 for getting downtown or across the city.

Kanata Lakes and other parts of north Kanata offer another style again, while areas toward Fernbank and Stittsville continue to add newer housing and development.

That’s why I usually don’t tell someone simply to “look in Kanata.” I’d rather figure out what matters most to you — commute, schools, mature trees, newer construction, walkability, lot size or proximity to work — and then narrow down the parts of Kanata that actually fit.
