Why Live in Orléans?

Orléans is Ottawa’s major east-end community, and like Kanata or Barrhaven, it’s really a collection of different neighbourhoods rather than one single place.

Chapel Hill has a more established feel, with mature streets, parks and a mix of older homes. Queenswood Village is another established pocket, closer to the older part of Orléans and convenient to shopping, transit and Highway 174.

Farther south and east, Avalon feels newer, with more recent construction, newer parks and schools, and continued growth around the community.

You also have areas like Chapel Hill South, Fallingbrook, Notting Gate and Summerside, each with a slightly different housing mix and feel.

One of the big advantages of Orléans is that most of what you need day to day is already here — shopping, restaurants, recreation, schools and parks — while Highway 174 gives you a fairly direct route toward downtown.

The trade-off is that commute time can vary quite a bit depending on exactly where you live in Orléans and where you’re travelling every day. That makes location within the community important, not just the house itself.

That’s why I’d rather figure out whether you want an older established neighbourhood, newer construction, easy highway access, proximity to transit, parks or more space — and then narrow down the parts of Orléans that actually fit.
