Why Live in Richmond?

Richmond gives you a much more small-town feel than Ottawa’s larger suburbs, but it’s also changing quickly.

The older Richmond Village area around Perth Street and McBean Street has the character of an established rural community — older homes, mature streets, local businesses and the Jock River running through the village.

Then you have substantial newer development such as Fox Run and Richmond Meadows, bringing newer detached homes and townhomes to the edges of the historic village. Richmond Meadows alone is a large ongoing development near Perth Street and Meynell Road, while Fox Run continues to add newer housing nearby. �

For people who like being outdoors, the Richmond Conservation Area along the Jock River gives the community another dimension, with trails, natural areas and open space close to home. �

Ottawa

One of Richmond’s attractions is the feeling of having a little more room and a quieter pace while still being able to reach Stittsville, Kanata and the rest of Ottawa. Access toward Highway 416 and Highway 417 also makes the village more connected than it might first appear. �

The trade-off is that this is still a more rural location. Driving is a bigger part of everyday life, and someone who wants shops, restaurants and transit right outside their door may be happier closer to the city.

That’s why I think Richmond works best for someone who actually wants the village lifestyle — not simply someone searching farther out for a newer or less expensive house.
