Richmond

What it feels like to live here

The village core is quieter and more varied than a master-planned suburb. You will find older houses, local businesses, community facilities and streets that reflect different periods of Richmond’s history. Newer neighbourhoods add contemporary homes and sidewalks, but open countryside and working farms remain close by.

Why residents choose Richmond

Buyers often choose Richmond for space, a quieter setting and a stronger village atmosphere while remaining within the City of Ottawa. The Richmond Fair is the community’s signature annual event, bringing together agricultural exhibits, livestock, crafts, entertainment and midway attractions. It is not just a visitor event—it reflects the rural history and volunteer culture that continue to shape the village.

Homes you will find

Richmond includes historic homes, bungalows, custom rural properties, established subdivisions, townhomes and newer development. Municipal services vary by location, so buyers must confirm water, sewer, well and septic arrangements for the specific property. Older homes and rural properties require careful attention to foundations, drainage, outbuildings, fuel sources and environmental considerations.

The honest trade-offs

Daily life is more car-dependent, and commuting to central Ottawa takes time. Local services are growing but remain more limited than in larger suburbs, so many residents travel to Kanata, Stittsville or Barrhaven for certain errands. Growth is changing traffic and the village edge, and buyers should understand approved development nearby.

Who Richmond fits

Richmond suits buyers who genuinely want a quieter village setting, more breathing room and access to rural Ottawa—not someone hoping for urban walkability. It can work especially well with flexible work or employment in the south and west ends.
